How Did You Meet?:
Drew and I met in 2010. I had just moved to the Detroit area to attend nursing school. Not knowing anyone in a brand new city I felt lucky that I quickly developed a friendship with a girl named Erin during the first few days of nursing school. Erin’s husband went to college with Drew and the two remained friends and were also living in the area. Erin thought that Drew and I would get along great and potentially make a great couple, so she arranged for us to meet. Originally we were friends and would see each other when the group of friends would get together on the weekends. We soon were spending more and more time together just the two of us.
Drew and I have been making plans to build a house in a beautifully wooded, private area. On the day of the engagement he told me that we needed to go to the property we are purchasing for an appointment to meet a “forester” who was going to help us with a part of the process. It was an unseasonably warm day in January, making everything muddy and wet. Because we had made plans to go to dinner after our appointment, I was not dressed to adventure through the woods. I tried to remain towards the road while I pushed Drew to show the “forester” around in order to quickly end the appointment and keep my boots clean for dinner. Drew grabbed my hand and tried coaxing me into the woods explaining that it was important to him for us both to be a part of all building plans. After several unsuccessful attempts to get me into the woods, he got down on one knee on the side of the road and asked me to marry him. The “forester” showed his true identity as a photographer and captured every moment. As we were taking a few other photos, a large limo pulled down the private road leading to the property. Drew explained that the beautiful, simple, diamond band he proposed with was a temporary ring. With champagne and glasses in hand, he led me to the limo and explained that we were on our way to Rottermond Jewelers in Brighton. He had made arrangement with Jesse Biers to keep the store open after hours in order for a private engagement ring shopping experience. Beyond thrilled, overwhelmed, and excited the surprises kept coming. Drew understands how close I am to my mother and just as he was saying, “I know you can’t make a decision without her”, my mom walked into the store. While drinking champagne and with the help of my mom, Drew and Jesse, I was able to choose a beautiful ring. After having a few drinks at a pub next door to Rottermond Jewelers while my ring was being sized, we finished off the night at Gandy Dancer having our first meal together as an engaged couple.
