How Did You Meet?:
Dan and I met through friends. Dan’s cousin, and now our best man, is best friends with my best friend’s husband.

Dan and I met in October 2009. I was living in Grand Rapids at the time. I had made plans with my friends from back home to go to a corn maze. I spent the entire day conjuring up ways to get out of the outing for the following reasons:

  1. It was miserable outside…cold, windy and wet
  2. I had spent the night before out and just wanted to rest
  3. Michigan State was playing an undefeated Iowa at home, under the lights, and I desperately wanted to be in East Lansing

My mom lovingly reminded me that I could not cancel on my friends. Even though I was in my late 20s, I listened. I met Dan that night (through his cousin Adam). I’m so glad I listened to my mom : )

Engagement Story?:
In November 2012, Dan had to travel for work. I will sometimes go with him depending on what is going on at work and where he is going. His trip in November took him to Nashville, one of our favorite cities. I took a few days off from work and met him down there.

On Thursday, November 10, Dan spent all day working. I spent it being pampered from head-to-toe at the spa. All of the women at the spa kept asking if I was getting engaged. I explained we were just going out for a nice dinner while on vacation. We had done this before, but I was secretly hoping they were right.

I went back to the hotel, and Dan and I left for dinner. We went to a fabulous restaurant called, Tayst, in the Vanderbilt area. The hostess sat us at a quiet table tucked in a back room with just one other table of guests. There was great music and delicious food.

Dan, who has a shy side, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said, “Yes!.” That other table in the small room we were in was filled with 10 women! He is a brave man. The waiter brought out champagne, and we toasted our engagement. We spent the rest of the night calling family and friends and celebrating~
