Engagement Story: Don & I love the Traverse City area, we try to spend some vacation time up there every year, particularly in the Fall. I had booked our weekend at BlackStar Farms at least 6 months earlier. We had driven by it on multiple occasions up there and always wanted to stay at the Inn. Our Saturday started out great, stopped at a few of the new vineyards up there for some wine tasting, bought a few bottles and then headed out on a small road trip around the Leelanau Peninsula. All the trips we’ve taken to the area we’ve never driven all the way around it. We stopped in Fish Town, went to the Car & Chris Craft boat show in Glen Arbor and took the tour at the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes. Don had made dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant,The Boat House on Old Mission, Traverse City. Our reservation was for 6:15, but due to a misjudgment of how long it would take, we got there at 6:30. It didn’t hit me till later that evening, but Don kept making comments about the sun setting while we were eating dinner like; “wow, what a nice sun set”, “there goes the sun”, etc. It was dark by the time we finished eating and paid our bill. As we were leaving the restaurant he asked me to walk down to the little beach they have at the restaurant. It was then that he asked me to marry him. So the comments about the sun . . . he wanted to propose as the sun was setting on the beach, but we got under the stars instead. Which for me, is just as good as under the sunset!
