How did you meet?
Through mutual friends the summer of 2010
It was a Friday evening in October. Originally, Nate suggested that he wanted to take me out that night to a nice dinner. I was a little suspicious that it might be the night he proposes seeing as he doesn’t usually plan anything; I’m more of the planner of the two of us. Unfortunately his car needed some repairs and money was tight, so he cancelled the plans. I figured he must be putting the proposal off for another weekend. Then, I got a call from my mom who was preparing for the Halloween party they were throwing at my parent’s house the following night. She asked if I could come over and help get everything ready. I called Nate to make sure he didn’t mind and to ask if he wanted to come over after he got done at work. He said sure, but was not all that enthused. So, I got to my parent’s house and was helping my mom when Nate arrived. Then, out of nowhere, my mom asked if we could take the dog for a walk, saying “he hasn’t had a walk all week.” I asked Nate if he wanted to join me… not knowing this was his plan all along. We walked through their neighborhood back to the gazebo on Cranberry Lake, where we have always taken walks. We followed the steps down to the dock and stood overlooking the water reminiscing about an evening we had a year earlier. The next thing I knew, he was down on one knee gazing into my eyes and said “Pookie will you marry me?” I gasped and said “YES! Of course I will!” He picked me up, spun me around, and, while the dog was jumping and barking, whispered sweet nothings in my ear. I can barely remember what he said since I was in such a shock. We then walked back to my parent’s house where they had champagne waiting for us. That’s when I found out that my parent’s were in on the whole engagement; Nate had my mom stash the ring at their house the week before and Nate was the one who got my mom to call me and get me to come over. My parents then toasted champagne to us and took us out to dinner to celebrate. Happiest day ever!
